Joined Sophia as 3rd Engineer in June and promoted to 2nd two months later. I was part of a 5-person team, which gave me the opportunity to continue learning, whilst having the responsibility of managing day to day operations and delegating amongst the team. In this role I was also responsible for the purchasing and procurement process for the department. During my time, I was involved in a number of main engine overhauls, yard periods, owners trips and very high-end charters.

I joined the yacht in its 10-year yard period, which included stabiliser works and a full AV/IT upgrade. We had 4 Mtu4000 M/E's and 3 Mtu generators which were big contributors to being given more trust and responsibility to work on my own, as well as being able to increase my knowledge and skills by working closely with the chiefs and 2nds. Unfortunately, all crew member contracts came to an end due to Russian conflict at the time.

My primary role was assisting the Chief Engineer with all maintenance on board as well as regimentally completing day to day tasks on IDEA. My time onboard included a yard period with main engine overhaul, four Atlantic crossings and several charters. I also had the opportunity to test my skills and knowledge through a few periods of Chief Engineer turn-over. We had Caterpillar Main engines and John Deer generators.
