An Able Seaman (AB) is a skilled deck crew member responsible for assisting in the safe operation and maintenance of the vessel. Main duties include: • Watchkeeping: Standing lookout and steering the ship during navigational watches. • Mooring and Anchoring: Handling mooring lines and operating deck machinery during docking and anchoring. • Deck Maintenance: Chipping, painting, cleaning, and general upkeep of the deck and equipment. • Cargo Handling: Assisting with loading, securing, and unloading cargo (if applicable). • Safety & Emergency: Participating in emergency drills and maintaining lifesaving equipment. • General Duties: Assisting officers, maintaining gangways, and supporting other departments as needed.
