CurrentAn Able Bodied Seaman (AB) is responsible for supporting the safe navigation and maintenance of the vessel. Duties include performing watchkeeping as a lookout and helmsman, handling mooring and anchoring operations, and carrying out deck maintenance such as chipping, painting, and repairs. An AB also assists in cargo operations, operates deck equipment, follows safety procedures, and plays an active role in emergency responses and drills while supervising and guiding junior crew when needed.
Ordinary seaman
(Ordinary Seaman) on a bulk ship assists the deck crew in maintaining the vessel and supporting daily operations. Responsibilities include cleaning, chipping, and painting deck areas, assisting in mooring and unmooring, and helping during cargo loading and unloading. They also perform basic maintenance tasks, support watchkeeping duties, and follow safety procedures at all times while assisting senior crew members and participating in emergency drills.
Deckboy
