I have been employed in Captain’s roles since 1999, accruing many thousands of coastal and ocean miles in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, NE coast of the US, Indian Ocean and the Arctic. My years in the industry have helped consolidate and broaden the skills I can bring to the captain’s role which, in addition to competent seamanship, vessel handling and crew management, also include experience with refit management, marine insurance, regulatory compliance, sales and charter brokerage. I also have wide experience of troubleshooting all standard onboard systems. Most of my work has been in long-term positions where I have gained a reputation for loyalty to owners and a devotion to the safety and wellbeing of crew and guests. I also like to think I bring a healthy dose of common sense to the complexities of running a yacht.

Hobbies & Interests
I live car free and use a bicycle for daily transport and encourage all my crews to do the same. My leave periods are invariably spent on multi-day bike tours. I am a qualified and enthusiastic Freediver. I am also a trained wooden boatbuilder, currently I’m building myself an 11 m/38’ wooden Catamaran.

Covering for regular Captain during owners cruise of Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, East Greenland and Iceland. Challenging conditions in Fog, Ice, cold seas, and intricate navigation.

I took over this prestigious Abeking and Rasmussen classic Ketch while she was laid-up in Cape Town. After recommissioning and recruiting a full crew, we cruised the islands of the western Indian ocean before sailing her back to the Med via the Gulf of Aden, Red sea and the Suez canal.

Refit and delivery of a 1984 Swan 54 entered in the Ocean Globe race. A straightforward delivery became a technical challenge with multiple gear failures to be overcome before successful completion of the voyage.
