I’m Lewis a 24 year old looking for role aboard as a deckhand. I believe that my skills and knowledge would make me a great fit for a yacht looking for someone who can learn and adapt fast. I come from a variety of backgrounds that comprises of hospitality, first responding/ policing, student, sailing, healthcare and a wide range of personal skills and life lessons learnt along the way. I’m confident, a great people person, and a hard worker who keeps going even when the going gets tough. Previously I have worked on tenders for Burgess at the Monaco Yacht Show which added to my tender driving and operation skills and gave me my first impression of the yachting industry. I have also worked one two superyachts. The first for two months aboard a 54m motor yacht as a deckhand where I learned all the fundamentals of being a deckhand from cleaning and maintenance to painting and DIY. The second on a 67m private new build which taught me a lot about how yachts work from the ground up. I am ideally looking for a fast paced yacht that can provide me with good longevity and further training opportunities to further my career as I see yachting as a long term profession and would love to work up to eventually getting my OOW <3000GT.

I love being active with a love for sports, exercise and adventure! I keep fit through road biking, swimming, hiking, running, sailing and in the gym. I would love to be part of an active crew that also enjoys spending their free time exercising, keeping fit and playing team sports. I also love cooking and have had multiple sessions with a Michelin starred chef. I am always keen to explore, learn and meet new interesting people. I love being around the water and I’m very keen to try more water sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing. I love pushing my boundaries and trying new things and experiences!
Experience
Deckhand
M/Y JAS was my second role as a deckhand and taught me a lot more about the industry and how a yacht operates from the ground up. JAS was a new build based in a shipyard in Carrara, Italy. While onboard I learned all about anchoring and mooring from the procedures to the application and safety. I also learned about how a yacht functions on deck through setting up the yacht setting up all the lockers and bringing onboard all the kit and getting it ready for the season. My skills and knowledge grew massively onboard with a huge focus on training, taking part in numerous drills and an additional two day course on fire fighting. While I enjoyed my time onboard for numerous reasons I felt that the boat wasn’t the right fit for me and I felt that another boat would be better that could provide me the longevity that I seek.
Deckhand
M/Y Talisman Maiton was my first role as a deckhand and even though it was only temporary for two months I managed to learn a huge amount about the role and how a superyacht operates. During my time aboard I learned many skills including, polishing, wash downs, teak scrubbing, Sika repairs, maintenance skills/ DIY such as sanding and painting, and most importantly how to work/ live as a team aboard. Overall my confidence and skills grew massively and I had some great feedback on how I have a good work ethic and a positive can do attitude. It has made me ready for a long term position aboard my next yacht.
Tender Crew
During my time at the MYS I worked on a Van Dutch 40 tender. I got some great experience with dealing/interacting with guests/clients, maintenance, tender operations and tender driving. The whole experience was a great insight into the industry and I got very positive feedback from my captain where I was told I am a quick learner and hard working. While only a 4 day event, I have taken a lot away from it and know the knowledge learned will give me a great advantage for my first role aboard.
