DECK OFFICER
Safety Officer or a key member of the safety team. Life-Saving Appliances (LSA) Maintenance: Directly responsible for the regular inspection, servicing, and inventory of all life-saving equipment, including life rafts, life jackets, immersion suits, flares, and EPIRBs. Fire Fighting Appliances (FFA) Maintenance: Responsible for inspecting and maintaining all fire-fighting equipment, such as fire extinguishers, fire hoses, breathing apparatus (SCBAs), and fire control systems. Drill Preparation & Training: Planning, organizing, and executing mandatory safety drills (fire, man overboard, abandon ship) and conducting safety training and familiarization for the crew. Compliance: Ensuring all safety procedures and equipment logs are compliant with international regulations (e.g., STCW, ISM Code). Navigational Watchkeeping Officer of the Watch (OOW): Standing a safe and vigilant navigational watch on the bridge while the yacht is underway, usually during assigned shifts. Bridge Management: Monitoring the ship's position, course, speed, and traffic, and making course corrections as required, in compliance with COLREGs. Assisting Senior Officers: Understudying and assisting the Second Officer with chart corrections, maintaining nautical publications, and record-keeping in the ship's logbook. Deck Operations and Guest Services Deck Support: Working alongside the Bosun and Deckhands to perform hands-on exterior maintenance, including cleaning, washing, polishing (metalwork, brightwork), and varnishing. Tender Operations: Demonstrating superior skill and proficiency in driving and maneuvering the yacht's tenders (auxiliary boats) for guest transportation. Water Toys: Being responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of all water sports equipment and toys for guest use. Mooring and Anchoring: Assisting the Chief Officer with all deck operations related to docking, undocking, and anchoring.
