AB / Helmsman (Officer Trainee Program)
CurrentServing as AB / Helmsman under an Officer Trainee Program on a 23.5 m tug boat. Assisting bridge watchkeeping activities, steering operations under supervision, lookout duties, and routine deck operations. Actively participating in various onboard emergency drills in accordance with the vessel’s safety management system, including fire, abandon ship, and man overboard drills. Gaining hands-on exposure to bridge procedures, passage monitoring, shipboard communication, and safety practices while preparing for future promotion to deck officer.
Cadet Deck
Gained solid onboard experience during a 12-month internship aboard the Utility Supply Vessel (USV) Fulmar, operating in the PHE ONWJ offshore oil field area. The sea practice provided comprehensive experience in deck operations, structured into two main phases: Phase 1: Under the Bosun's Supervision (3 months) My main roles include: - Assisting the Bosun in performing daily maintenance on the deck and hull, including chipping, painting, and rigging. - Assisting in lifting cargo and passengers from the vessel to the platform, applying lashing belts to the cargo, and handling deck equipment (such as cranes, towing equipment, and anchors). - Ensuring compliance with safety standards in the deck area. Phase 2: Under the Supervision of a Deck Officer (9 months) My role shifted to focus on: - Assisting the Navigation Officer with watchkeeping duties on the bridge. - Learning and operating navigation equipment (Radar, GPS, AIS, VHF radio, Inmarsat, and other navigation equipment). - Documenting logbooks and daily navigation reports. - Assisting in the preparation and submission of reports such as the daily Zone 500 report, vessel daily report, and other daily reports, weekly reports, monthly reports. - Helping ensure all safety equipment on board is properly maintained and operational, such as testing the SART, EPIRB, fire extinguishers equipment, and EEBD. - Planning voyage routes under the supervision of the ship's mate.
