I have a great passion and respect for the ocean but a greater passion to explore and be able to call it my workspace. where it all began was on a farm with a dam and a wooden sailing dinghy. I was hooked, soon after my father and I bought a small Holiday 23ft sailing boat on the Vaal-dam. I enjoyed the sailing and competitive racing aspect, but more than that, the crew gatherings. This was where I met Jasper van der Westhuizen, an owner and captain of a Simones 35ft Sailing boat. He offered me a once in a lifetime opportunity, to participate in the 2020 Cape2Rio Ocean race. The reason where my passion comes from and why I want to pursue my career in the yachting industry. Since then, I have done some courses to increase my chances and land a job with a well reputable company, seeking longevity and work my way up towards engineering. Prior to all of this I have been in the construction industry for over ten years that gave me a vast variety of skills. I have gathered plenty of practical skills, such as working my hands, undergoing maintenance on machinery and operating heavy lifting equipment, welding steel structures, installing of plumbing and timber roofing structures. Most of all I have life experience and a practical mindset.

Career Objective
My objective in life would be to work my way up the ranks to a first mate position on reputed sailing or motor yacht and seeking longevity for that position with a respectable crew. I have completed my RYA Yachtmaster sailing with a commercial endorsement, my next step will be working towards an OOW or Ocean Masters.

My hobbies are all water sports and outdoor activities. Surfing, wakeboarding, E-foiling and jet board. Fishing and free dive pole spearing. Keelboat sailing and dinghy racing. Laser & Hobbie/Darts. Fitness keeping in shape, hiking & exploring/traveling. interested in kite surfing
Experience
Deck/engineer
Assisting deck chief engineer with engine maintenance. General upkeep and maintenance of exterior and interior doors, chairs and cabinets. Tender runs and beach setups and maintenance on tenders outboards, jet skis and refuelling.
Deck/manny
My responsibility was to assist the kids in water sport activities and ensure their safety at all times, driving to school assisted them with homework and after school activities.
Foreman/ fabricator/ project manager
I assisted in a family owned business where I developed skills such as welding, plumbing, basic electrical work, maintaining work equipment and machinery. Working closely and managing a team and assisting high end clients.
