Offshore Nurse
Provide emergency care at any time for personal accidents that occur on board, administering necessary first aid and, as a technician, classifying the injuries. Keep the Captain or First Officer informed whenever a crew member is admitted to the infirmary, or if there are any cases of infectious diseases or reportable illnesses, taking the necessary precautions to prevent contagion, monitoring chronic conditions, and maintaining medical records. Stay informed about the health status of crew members, especially those unable to remain on board, and notify the First Officer as needed. Maintain the pharmacy, infirmary, and isolation areas in perfect condition, ensuring order, cleanliness, and hygiene. Perform inventory checks and maintain medical equipment. Strictly comply with the instructions from the National Health Department or other relevant governmental agencies, supervising and conducting potable water tests, general hygiene inspections, with special attention to sanitation conditions and food safety. This includes daily inspection of food items taken from the storerooms and refrigerated chambers for meal preparation and facilitating visits from health authorities at national and international ports. Monitor the delivery of supplies on board, examine the quality of food materials, and report any irregularities to the Captain through the First Officer, including issues with storage areas for provisions. Supervise and assist with onboard services such as rat extermination, pest control, fumigation, decontamination, and disinfection. Be active participant in prevention efforts, collaborating with a specific focus on safety and actively working to prevent accidents. Conduct first aid training for stretcher teams. Accompany the Captain during inspections of the various areas on board. Participate in briefings for crew embarkation and disembarkation, ensuring the proper boarding of passengers and denying entry to those who have infectious diseases or other conditions that cannot be treated during the voyage. Stay at the onboard medical post during hours previously established by the Captain. Maintain an accurate inventory of all health materials (surgical supplies, medications, pharmacy items) and first aid materials, ensuring their conservation and taking responsibility for any shortages found. Prepare requests for necessary medications and materials, forwarding them to the Captain through the First Officer. Provide a list of health materials on board to be handed over to authorities at each port and comply with the ocean management system policy, where each individual is responsible for the quality and safety of their activities, as well as environmental preservation.
Hospital Nurse on Board
CurrentCoordinate medical visits on land for passengers or crew members and medical disembarkation. Monitor and review occupational health programs, as well as the validity of the crew's vaccinations. Ensure that passenger and crew consent forms for treatment are signed before any medical intervention, except in emergency situations where consent cannot be obtained prior to initiating an emergency intervention. Keep the doctor informed about all medical matters related to guests and crew members. Provide administrative coordination of daily functions and operations of the onboard Medical Center in collaboration with the doctor. Manage service and maintenance requests for equipment in the Medical Centers. Ensure completion of regular inventories of medications, durable goods, and equipment requiring replenishment/replacement, to maintain normal levels, and manage expired medications. Oversee and participate in the completion of all equipment and supply checklists, including daily, weekly, and monthly checklists. Ensure that medications are distributed to passengers and crew accurately and safely, with appropriate warnings and precautions reviewed with the patient. Be familiar with the indications, side effects, and precautions to be observed for all medications distributed, including emergency medications used on board. Advise passengers and crew members and verify their understanding of how to use any provided medications. Ensure that all passenger and crew information is kept confidential. Maintain the Medical Center's schedule as agreed with the doctor and share on-call duties with the doctor. Provide training alongside the doctor. Be familiar with and competent in the operation of all equipment in the Medical Centers, including all emergency bags, and have technical knowledge of laboratory procedures, X-ray machines, or tests for H1N1 and COVID-19, OLO, CBC, PICCOLO, etc. Maintain accurate records of all aspects of medical management for passengers and crew members. Ensure that all surgical instruments are properly sterilized and ready for use. Responsible for conducting water tests and reports in accordance with the Water Safety Plan. Maintain routine operations, such as crew training, potable water tests, hand checks for all crew members handling food, first aid kit checks, Medical Center inventory, expired medication inventory, weekly office supply requisitions, and gastroenteritis (AGE) equipment records.
