First Mate
I took this job because I wanted more responsibility and wanted to work under a captain willing to teach and mentor me as well as give me room to grow and further myself in this industry. Managed and trained deck team, overseeing a bosun, deckhand, and fishing mate. (Periods of a 2nd temp deckhand too) Fishing program, the vessel had a fishing cockpit extension added on in a refit. Was happy to help out fishing but was mainly in the bridge or with captain as he was backing down. Held navigational watches, comfortable in the bridge, passage planning, keeping all log books up to date, keeping charts/pubs up to date implemented mini ISM, and participated in 5-year class/flag state survey. Implementing a planned maintenance plan for deck/LSA/bridge. Maintained LSA gear, all medical gear, conducted weekly/monthly/yearly safety inspections as per safety management plan, conducted crew drills. Coordinated with contractors during big yard and refit periods. Gained a lot of tool/product knowledge. Conducted crew drills for various emergencies and maintained vessel to high standards. Cruised extensively along the west coast of the US, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, and the Bahamas, Florida and Caribbean ending with an Atlantic crossing from Saint Lucia to Cape Verde
